This piece was shown in 2023 as part of the Art for the environment exhibition that was held during Chippenham Town Council’s Eco Fest.
For this collage, I originally wanted to contrast natural and man-made elements. However, when I selected the coke bottle from a vintage magazine, I found the relationship with the natural elements to be worryingly comfortable; perhaps it is purely aesthetic, but it did make me wonder if we have become so accepting of urbanisation that we can no longer distinguish between the manufactured and the natural.
The title is a play on the commercial idea that materialism can invoke a type of paradise, that we can find our own Eden in a coke bottle, and as this becomes more commonplace, what is the cost?
